The past year, we’ve all noticed the trend on Social: “My toxic trait is ____”. This is a catchy social media caption where you typically add a funny, tongue-cheek answer that bridges self-deprecation and pokes at society’s poor mental health in 2024.

While I posit this trend started as a way to distill the current grudgery of dating and relationships onto yourself vs. the other (okay, or both), which has now expanded to be a catch-all for “guilty things I do”.

I’m writing this because, beyond social media, I glean a shift in society’s attempt to begin to think more introspectively, which is worth applause (along with some humor)

Connecting the dots:

Toxic traits have to do with society’s unknown adventure of actually exploring archetypes, specifically the SHADOW. Within this quest, there’s a mountain of learning that can make us all better humans, even if you currently use Toxic traits for witty commentary to get a few likes.
